Nigerian entertainer and social media personality, Abdulgafar Ahmad, popularly known as Cute Abiola, has recounted a period of detention he experienced.
In November 2021, the comedian found himself in Navy custody for 10 days.
His absence was initially a cause for concern among his fellow comedians, notably Debo Adedayo, also known as Mr Macaroni, who raised alarms about his whereabouts after he failed to report to his office in Navy Town, Lagos.
It was revealed two days later by a Navy commander that Cute Abiola wasn’t missing but had been detained due to a breach of military regulations.
This breach involved him posting a video of himself in military attire on social media, contravening the armed forces’ social media guidelines.
Additionally, it was noted that he didn’t respond to summons for explanation, only returning after the end of his leave on November 15, 2021, and subsequently being detained on the same day.
Following a trial for misconduct and indiscipline, the comedian was eventually released after 18 days to serve his punishment.
Reflecting on this experience, Cute Abiola acknowledged the humbling effect of his time in military custody, having spent 30 days behind bars.
Despite the ordeal, he expressed gratitude towards the Armed Forces, signifying a sense of acceptance and learning from the experience.
