Van De Beek Puts Up Yet Another Dissapointing Performance

Van De Beek was given a rare start in the fifth-round tie at Old Trafford but he was hauled off after 73 minutes of the hosts’ 1-0 win

Manchester United once again decided to do things the hard way as they needed an extra-time goal from Scott McTominay to book their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win over West Ham at Old Trafford.

If there was any doubt over just how important Bruno Fernandes is to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, it was made painfully obvious as the hosts struggled to break down opponents who put all 11 men behind the ball.

Fernandes had been given a rest as Solskjaer rotated his players. The only surprising thing was that Solskjaer waited until the 73rd minute to bring him on.

And it came as no surprise at all to see the number 34 flash up on the substitutes’ board. Donny van de Beek’s night was over.

Frustrating is probably the word that best sums up the 23-year-old’s time at Old Trafford so far. It’s been frustrating from his perspective because he’ll feel he’s not been given as many chances

By Fernandes’ high standards, even he looked rusty. It was again made abundantly clear that United are a far better outfit.

He had only been on the pitch two minutes when he sparked a United attack down. The right with a perfectly weighted pass with the outside of his boot to find Greenwood.

He wasn’t involved in the goal but his introduction was integral to United’s improvement.

It was another night where Solskjaer had hoped he could give his star man a badly needed rest. He was looking to fringe players such as Van de Beek to step up to the mark and prove their worth.
