Luis Suarez has tested positive for coronavirus, the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) has confirmed.

The player has tested positive ahead of his side’s fixture against his former team this Saturday

The striker is said to be in good health and following rules.

Suarez will miss the match on Tuesday, as well as Atletico’s game with former club Barcelona on Saturday.

A statement from the AUF: “The UFA reports that Luis Suarez tested positive for Covid-19.

“He is in good health and measures have already been followed.”

Suarez started in Uruguay’s most recent game, scoring in a 3-0 win on Friday.

The 33-year-old has been in excellent form and he will no doubt be disappointed not to have the chance to play against his former club at the weekend.

Suarez has scored five goals in six games and has been a key figure in Atletico’s early title push.

Athletico are third, three points behind the leaders. Atletico are a point ahead of Real and six clear of Barca.

Simeone has said Suarez has been a part of Atletico’s form and was bringing the best out of team-mates such as the record signing.
