Chelsea Suffer Heart Breaking Defeat To Mourinho’s Tottenham

On a cold wet night in London, Jose Mourinho led spurs to a tense penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea.

The match, which ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, saw Chelsea take an early lead when German forward Timo Werner rifled home his first goal for the club.

Chelsea went on to dominate the game keeping 63% of possession, however, they were not able to turn it into chances and they were lethargic with the few they managed to create.

Tottenham pounced on Chelsea’s bluntness when debutant Sergio Reguilon’s cross sailed through for Eric Lamela to convert from 6 yards out in the 83rd minute.

The game ended in a tense draw and with no extra time played the match went straight to a penalty shootout where Mason Mount’s wild kick settled the match 5-4 in Totteham’s favour.

Speaking after the match, Lampard said;

“The first half was as much control as you can have in a game of football,” Lampard told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I keep saying the same thing but there’s no doubt that if you look at our first-half performance and some of the great stuff we did, that’s going to keep coming.

“To sustain that for 90 minutes with the fitness we’ve got is hard – you can see they were dead on their feet at the end. Tottenham had an extra two weeks of pre season. That’s a tough challenge but I can’t be unhappy with a lot of the performance.”
