Super Eagles handler, Gernot Rohr has revealed that a minimum of 50 players will jostle for shirts when camp opens for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking on Super-sports Monday-night programme, the Franco-German coach said he would send out scouts and coaches to search for 50 known and unknown players for the tournament slated for Cameroon in June 2019.
He also admitted that the tournament won’t be an easy task for the three time African champions after missing the last two editions.
“I must confess to you, the tournament won’t be an easy task for the Eagles and the only way we can pull a surprise is by scouting for best legs who are willing to play.
“So, I’m aiming for at least 50 players for the Nations Cup. Obviously, I can’t do it all alone, so I will be sending out my coaches and scouts to do this.
“I won’t limit the scouting to foreign base players alone. I will give the home-based players a chance to also prove themselves. Some Under 20 and Under 23 will be invited for the exercise as they kick off their various qualifying series.
“My scouts, Victor Agali will help me search for good foreign-based players who are yet to make their debut.
“As soon as the Nigeria Professional Football League kicks off, Salisu Yusuf will help search for good legs from the northern parts of the country, while Imma Amakapo will do findings from the East. Alloy Agu is there to help search for players from Lagos and other western states while I also do my own personal findings.
“With all these, I can assure you we will be having a great outing in Cameroon. Don’t quote me wrong, the players I’m aiming at are those who play regular football in their various clubs.”
